Getting your book published is simple if you wish to go the self-publishing route. The use of “Print on Demand” (POD) technology makes getting your book published within reach of anyone who has a story to tell, and…
Everyone has a story to tell!….
It is not difficult to get it out to the world! And it doesn’t cost much. When I had my book published and in my hands, the thrill of having followed through on a dream and to actually hold it in hand was an incomparable experience!
With self-publishing and POD you do not have to order a large minimum amount of books. I can order as little as 6 books at a time (it depends on the individual POD publisher). All aspects of printing are taken care of, as well as the order fulfillment. You set the retail price above the base cost of each book. For example, the base price for each book might be $6.00 to be printed up by the publisher (this is not uncommon). You set the retail price for let’s say, $12.00. That would be $6.00 profit for each book you sell yourself. If you wish to sell through Amazon and Barnes & Noble, the publisher also sets that up, but you would normally set up a merchant discount for that to take place, and that discount is decided by you.
Using POD has its advantages and disadvantages. The larger traditional publishers have marketing networks already in place and have a wider reach throughout the marketplace. If you have marketing ability and have the time and energy to devote to selling your own books, then POD can be the way to go.
Having written a book–while being tremendously satisfying–has also opened many doors. It is like having a calling card that people and companies take notice of. It seems to lend greater credence and authority to the business of selling your services.
If you have any questions regarding POD publishing, let me know. It is so within your reach to be a self-published author!
