Listening to the Intuitive Voice, Part IV

The idea of “losing oneself in dance” is a visceral experience that I believe is understandable and fairly accessible to many people. Similarly, “being danced by Spirit” can be thought of pretty much in the same way, but with some exceptions. The latter idea connects with deeper and more subtle vibrations and sensations…and does not require the physical playing of music to dance to.

Another exception is that when being danced by Spirit, physical movements may be outwardly imperceptible. Rather, it may be more an inner dance of “micromovements,” delicate movements prompted by an inner response and play with the flow of life force in the body…a push/pull play of contraction and relaxation, perhaps reminiscent of isometric and isotonic exercises.

Now, there are many types of subtle energy dynamics happening in the body all at the same time and I wish to speak of only those that can be viscerally experienced/felt, so as to not divert the attention in mere intellectual and philosophical concepts.

Particular sensations that we may not pay much attention to (but worthy of deep exploration) are the incoming and outgoing breaths. When we endeavor to feel deeper and deeper into the subtle sensations that arise when we tune into our breath, at a certain point there is an inner “get,” a visceral experience and connection with the breath as infinitely subtle waves and pulsations of life force.

The above “explanation” can be expressed in another way: “watch/observe the incoming and outgoing breaths dispassionately.” Now, the concepts of watching the breath, as suggested in different meditation techniques, is simple enough to understand. However, the inner “get,” the deep connection and visceral experience of the “distilled essence” of life force through breath seems to require a slight shift in how we “feel” into our bodies.

I find it somewhat mind boggling that, considering all the years (most of my life) that I “practiced” meditation, that a deep connection with the subtle life force (and its Divine Essence, Bliss) remained elusive!

It wasn’t enough to merely understand meditation technique, along with my intention to “go deeper and deeper into subtlety.” All my “trying harder” and longer periods of meditation also did not seem to help.

Listening to the Intuitive Voice, Part III

When listening to music, especially the kind that is easy to dance to, it is not difficult to “get” the idea of being “danced by music.” Now, the idea of being “danced by Spirit” is just a progressively deeper dive into the subtleties of sensations and vibrations created by the movement of life force in the body.

What is being offered here is an initial entry point, using music and dance, to access finer and finer sensations/vibrations that move through the body…and especially the spine. This approach requires a simple noticing of sensations/vibrations of the body and then tuning into the underlying subtlety of whatever is felt.

As you listen/feel into the music, notice how the body naturally wants to move and sway in rhythm to its cadence. However, before getting up to dance, feel into the subtle sensations, into the grand central source that activates the desire to dance.

Then, as you tune into subtlety, notice how the mind naturally goes into deep meditative trance as it tracks finer and finer sensations. Noticing the shift in awareness is important as there is an accompanying inner acknowledgment of the difference in consciousness…from outwardly distracted thinking to inwardly focused moments of “no-thought.”

This acknowledgment of the shift in awareness is important because it provides the momentum to go deeper still. In other words, the noticing and acknowledgment of the mind going into trance provides impetus and reminder to go deeper…and deeper…and deeper yet into subtlety.

Listening to the Intuitive Voice, Part II

Now, when feeling into any emotion, whether it be a slight irritation, anger…or full blown sadness/depression, the approach of not ignoring the energetic, sensation aspect of feelings is being suggested here: tuning into the visceral, overall vibration of the body when feeling low, in a funk…and then….

Here’s what seems to usually happen: We get emotionally triggered by some circumstance or incident and then the feeling and thought patterns go ‘round and ‘round the gravitational pull of our hurt feelings. We get stuck in thought and feeling loops.

However, something very special happens when we feel into the overall sensation of the body, tuning into the subtle underlying vibration of all feelings, the resonance or hum of Being.

When the mind/awareness connects with the subtle underlying hum, the habitual “circling the drain” feeling/thinking is short-circuited…and then here’s what happens: by the simple focusing upon the subtle overall sensation of the body, the mind is offered a window of opening to “shift tracks,” to one that leads into a deeper trance/swoon.

Now, in allowing the mind to “shift tracks,” the mind is guided to follow the prompts of the body to move, shake, vibrate in ways that dissolves and expels the energy of moods. There are many traditions, techniques and approaches that speak towards this…and the effectiveness in these approaches occur when there is an inner “getting,” when there is the visceral experience of being “danced” by the energetic prompts of the life force moving through the body.

Kundalini Divine Nectar, Part IV

The approach of feeling into the resonance of the overall vibration of the body has a way of naturally and easily drawing the mind to a one-pointed awareness…an awareness of all sensations felt as one resonance of Being!

A delicate balance point is created as the mind that “holds” to the central core of the overall sensation gives rise to a giddiness or wobbliness of the body…a result of the interplay of contraction/relaxation, stillness/movement, incoming/outgoing breath, etc.

I think of it in this way: the experience of the body/mind/psyche that is focused upon the innermost sensation in the spine is like a play of the finest strands of silk moving in delicious spirals through what feels like the central core of the body.

Feeling into this subtle sensation has a way of naturally interiorizing the mind. Body, mind, breath are “held” as though gently electrified in different postures that allows the flow and overflow of energies to move without getting stuck.

These “postures” taken up by the body are not static, “thought out” positions, but rather dynamic geometries of the body guided by the Life Force, oftentimes in incremental micro movements…like a slow-motion dance!

Kundalini Divine Nectar, Part III

Any position/posture of the body can be explored to infinite nuance of sensations…and by relaxing and surrendering to the fine vibrations/currents moving through the body, the Divine Dance of micro movements is activated. There is then a noticing of the body moving/dancing, adjusting automatically to the rise and fall of energy.

As the mind/attention focuses upon the current, there is also a noticing of how the mind is drawn inwardly, as though “captured” by the current. It is important to notice and acknowledge the dynamics of what happens when the mind focuses upon subtle sensations, upon the inner current of Life Force.

Another way of thinking about how the mind can be “captured,” is to understand and experience the mind going into trance when using repetition and rhythm…such as when chanting or singing; or when losing oneself in dance.

Ordinarily we don’t pay much attention to what happens when the mind gets drawn into repetitive drumming, or when we surrender ourselves in dance; or when going on long runs. However, if there is an intention to witness the body/mind/psyche going into trance, then the experience of noticing subtle shifts of awareness becomes an open pathway where each subtlety of sensation is like a “breadcrumb” leading to the next subtlety of sensation.

When Kundalini Awakens, Part VII

The sensations of the inner current, as felt in the spine, holds the mind in delicate trance…focused on the gentle feeling of “upliftment.” This type of meditation is not a passive kind in which the body remains in one position, unmoving. Rather, the buildup of energy in certain areas of the body (particularly in the spine) causes the body to take up certain postures that allows for a greater flow and overflow of the life force.

These movements (oftentimes in fine increments) of the body happen naturally and automatically. The mind’s connection/attunement with these subtle sensations creates a “contortion” of the life force, a buildup of energy that spirals and pulsates up the spine.

It seems that by merely focusing upon the overall sensation of the body, the energy begins to build up to a point that naturally requires the body to adjust, to move in ways that allows greater accommodation of the rising tide of energy. This may look like a contortion of the body, shaking, spiraling movements of the spine, etc.

The body and breath seem to adjust on their own (automatically) allowing the energy to expand and flow without constriction. This can be thought of as “surrendering to the dance.”

This feeling of “upliftment” is a visceral, physical sensation of the life force in the spine…a lifting upwards of the head and spine and even the eyes.

When Kundalini Awakens, Part VI

Perhaps some may be able to relate to this: once in awhile there can be a certain giddiness of the body that seems to cause it to move restlessly: tapping of the feet or fingers, fidgeting, inability to sit still, etc…and usually this all happens outside the range of our normal awareness. We don’t pay attention, or consider the subtle dynamics of how energy moves through the body. In other words, we don’t tune into or follow to its source the activating vibration of restlessness.

However, when we allow ourselves to feel into the sensations of giddiness, to focus upon and “hold” to its primal vibration/sensation, a vast and ethereal world of emanations/pulsations opens up to us.

This simple “practice” has a way of dropping the mind into meditative trance…as the mind that engages with subtle sensations is easily absorbed by fine currents which impart sensations very different from the norm.

This play of subtlety then becomes a delicate dance that absorbs the consciousness in finer and finer waves of sensations…and it is this “absorption” of the mind that has a way of shifting the consciousness up and out of what may feel overbearing, dense, dark, constricting (such as sadness, depression, etc.).

Feeling into subtle sensations has a way of uplifting the consciousness very quickly because tuning into subtlety creates a finer resonance of being, one that “uplifts.” This is a visceral experience, as the body begins to vibrate in resonance with the mind that is attuned to the fine currents moving through the spine.
